Arms of John Murray, 1st Duke of Atholl: A Pint Glass Design

This striking design presents the intricate coat of arms of John Murray, 1st Duke of Atholl, a powerful figure in Scottish history. The artwork showcases a complex heraldic composition, reflecting the Duke's lineage, titles, and connections.

The Shield (Escutcheon): A Tapestry of Heritage

The central element is the shield, meticulously quartered to display the diverse elements of the Duke's heritage. The first and fourth quarters feature the "paly of six Or and Sable," vertical stripes of gold and black, emblematic of the Atholl title and territorial holdings. The second quarter, a "fess chequy Azure and Argent," a checkered band of blue and silver, represents the Stewart (Stuart) family connections. The third quarter displays "Argent, on a bend Azure three stags’ heads cabossed Or," golden stags' heads on a blue diagonal band, signifying ties to the Stanley family.

Over all, an inescutcheon, a smaller shield on top of the main one, bears the core Murray family arms: "Azure, three mullets (stars) Argent within a double tressure flory counter-flory Or". This small shield symbolizes the Murray chiefship.

The Isle of Man is represented with a quarter featuring a prominent symbol - three legs in armour Proper, garnished and spurred Or, flexed and conjoined in a triangle at the upper part of the thigh.

A Display of Rank and Lineage

Crowning the shield is the coronet of a Duke, representing the Duke of Atholl. Above this, the design features three crests. The first is a mermaid holding a mirror and comb, a traditional Murray emblem. The second crest, a wild man, holding a dagger and key, is symbolic of Atholl's Highland roots. The third crest depicts a peacock head with arms vested in maunches, a reference to the Tullibardine line.

Supporters and Mottoes

Flanking the shield are two supporters. On one side, a wild man, mirroring the crest, represents the Duke’s ancient and possibly wild heritage. The other side is a lion rampant, signifying nobility and royal allegiance. Above each crest there are also three mottos.

Clear 16 oz (≈0.47 L) pint glasses made from solid glass with a heavy base for steady placement. Narrower at the bottom for an easier grip and balanced feel — durable, dishwasher-safe, and ideal for both serving and mixing.

These pints are crafted from 100% clear glass that showcases the drink inside — color, clarity and carbonation are all visible. A heavier, solid base reduces tipping and gives the glass a satisfying weight in the hand while the gently tapered body makes holding and carrying more comfortable.

Built to last, the construction resists chipping under normal use and is suitable for busy service environments as well as retail display. One-sided print work reads bright against the clear surface; the overall aesthetic is clean and modern.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and gloss.
  • Capacity: 16 oz (standard U.S. pint / ≈0.47 L).
  • Base: heavy solid glass base reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Shape: narrower bottom for a comfortable grip and easier carrying.
  • Durability: dishwasher-safe and built for regular use.

Use these glasses for draft pours, mixed drinks, iced beverages and more. Their clear walls show off color and bubbles, which makes them a great choice for menus, tasting flights, and bars where presentation matters.

  1. Serving: ideal for beers, sodas, iced teas and cocktails served cold.
  2. Mixing: also works as a simple mixing glass for shaken or stirred cocktails in casual settings.
  3. Display: clean silhouette fits behind bars, on shelves, or on retail racks.

Quick tip: because the base is heavier, these glasses feel stable on trays and counters — handy when serving multiple drinks at once.

These glasses are dishwasher-safe; place them on the top rack and use a regular household cycle. For best longevity, avoid stacking them tightly and steer clear of high-heat commercial wash cycles when possible.

Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap when you want to preserve maximum clarity and avoid sudden temperature shocks. Handle by the body, not just the rim, to reduce the chance of accidental chipping.
