Arms of John Murray, 1st Duke of Atholl: Shot Glass Design

This shot glass showcases the intricate and historically rich coat of arms of John Murray, 1st Duke of Atholl, a prominent figure in Scottish history. The design is a visual symphony of heraldic elements, each telling a story of lineage, title, and alliances.

The Shield (Escutcheon)

The central element is the shield, meticulously divided into quarters. The first and fourth quarters display the Paly of six Or and Sable, vertical stripes of gold and black representing the title of Atholl. The second quarter features a fess chequy Azure and Argent (blue and silver checkered band), a testament to the Stewart connection. The third quarter shows a bend Azure (diagonal blue stripe) bearing three stags’ heads cabossed Or (gold stags' heads), representing ties to the Stanley family. The fourth and final quarter of the main shield features the three legs in armour Proper, garnished and spurred Or, flexed and conjoined in triangle which represents the Isle of Man.

Over the shield lies an inescutcheon, a smaller shield superimposed on the design, bearing Azure, three mullets (stars) Argent within a double tressure flory counter-flory Or. This is the heart of the Murray clan arms, representing the chiefship of the Murray family.

Crests

Above the shield, the design incorporates three crests. The first shows a mermaid holding a mirror and a comb. The second depicts a wild man holding a dagger and a key. The third crest shows a peacock's head and neck along with two arms.

Supporters

Flanking the shield are the supporters. The dexter (left) supporter is a wild man. The sinister (right) supporter is a red lion rampant, wearing a collar bearing three silver stars.

Mottoes

Three mottos, signifying different aspects of the Murray heritage, surround the crests.

Meaning and Symbolism

The design is a powerful statement of lineage, incorporating elements related to Atholl, Stewart, Stanley, and the Isle of Man. It is a visual celebration of the Murray chiefship, the Dukedom of Atholl, and the noble heritage of John Murray.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
