This shot glass reproduces the tricolour flag of the Mexican Federal Republic in its 1887 form, with the national coat of arms set in the white band in the version adopted by decree that year.

Visual Elements & Composition

The flat vector artwork is built on the classic Mexican tricolour, three vertical bands of dark green, white and red. The emblem sits in a circular arrangement at the centre of the white band. Its eagle is perched on a nopal cactus, and a serpent hangs from its beak. Beneath the cactus, a rocky island rises from a lake, with an oak branch and a laurel branch set around the base and crossed quill pens tied with ribbon. Brown and royal blue details sit within the emblem, and the eagle's outline follows a more ornamental, formal drawing than earlier versions of the arms.

Meaning & Symbolism

The eagle on the cactus devouring a serpent is the core of the national coat of arms, drawn from the founding legend of Tenochtitlan that the republic has carried since its earliest emblems. The lake and rocky island mark the setting of that legend, while the oak and laurel branches stand for strength and honour. The crossed quill pens refer to the civic and legislative life of the federal state. The eagle follows a French-influenced heraldic model, which the 1887 decree specified, and that choice distinguishes this version from the flags used in other periods of Mexican history.
