Bold black characters on a white route shield identify BR-477, a federal highway in Brazil, with a junction notice beneath.
Visual Elements & Composition
The layout is almost entirely white, with black used for the lettering and outlines only. A rounded shield with a central point at its base frames the designation, and a double-line border runs parallel to its edge. “BR” and “477” are set large and centred, and the “jct” marker sits in smaller type. The image is flat and vector-clean, with no ornament beyond the border.
Meaning & Symbolism
In Brazil the “BR” prefix designates a federal road, one of the national routes that carry traffic between states, regions and frontier towns. The number 477 places this one within that network, and “jct” indicates a point where drivers can join or leave it. Shields of this form are the standard modern route marker, and the sign reads as a plain record of how the country’s roads are named and organised.
A Mug for Roadside Eyes
Route markers are read at a glance from a moving vehicle, and a mug invites the same quick look each time it is lifted. The shield keeps its silhouette around the curve of the ceramic, and the central numerals stay in view as the cup is turned. It is a small object that asks for the same kind of attention a road sign does.
