Brasil estado 985 jct (Brazil) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

A pentagon road marker carrying the bold numerals 985, drawn as a flat black-and-white junction sign for Brazil.

Visual Elements & Composition

Black and white make up the whole palette, with white covering close to nine-tenths of the field. A regular pentagon outline in thick black sits at the centre and frames the design. Inside it, the numerals 985 are set large and heavy, so the number is the only element on the surface. The shapes are simple and evenly weighted, which gives the sign a plain, direct read from across a table.

Meaning & Symbolism

The label "Estado 985 Jct" points to a numbered junction on a state road in Brazil, the kind of marker a traveller uses to find a place on a map. The number 985 is the identifier, and the pentagon is the shape of the sign that carries it. The design takes its reference from modern road signage and cartography, presenting a single point on the network as an emblem of the region.

On the Ceramic Mug

The sign is centred and wraps the full curve of the mug, so the pentagon sits in the same place each time the cup is turned in the hand. The white ceramic ground lets the black outline and numerals stand out clearly, and the mug's C-handle leaves the artwork uninterrupted on the side facing you. It is a sign built to be read at a glance, and a mug is held and looked at in the same way.
