This design is a map of Central America as it was drawn in 1913, a narrow land bridge linking North and South America between two oceans.

Visual Elements & Composition

The isthmus runs across the composition from northwest to southeast, and the eye follows its tapering shape from the broad northern territories down to the point where the continent narrows. Coastlines on the Pacific and Caribbean sides frame the land, and the fine linework of borders, rivers and mountain ranges fills the interior.
