The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a public work relief program established in the United States during the Great Depression under President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Operational from 1933 to 1942, its primary objective was to provide employment opportunities for unmarried men aged between 18 and 25 and concurrently address national resource conservation goals. The CCC focused on the rehabilitation of natural resources such as forests, parks, roads, and public land buildings while providing trainees with vocational skills that could help them reintegrate into civilian life. Throughout its nine-year tenure, the CCC planted over 3 billion trees, built hundreds of recreational facilities in national parks, helped combat soil erosion, and fought forest fires, among other conservation initiatives.
