The Defense Media Activity (DMA) is a component of the United States Army that manages communication and public affairs efforts for the Department of Defense (DoD). It was established in 2016 as part of a reorganization aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of DoD's public affairs operations. The DMA provides strategic communications guidance, develops and executes communications campaigns, and serves as the central hub for all news and visual information related to the U.S. Army. It collaborates with other military services, government agencies, and international partners in its mission to inform and engage audiences about the activities and achievements of the U.S. military. The DMA's work includes managing media outlets such as the American Forces Network (AFN), producing multimedia content, and responding to information requests from the media.
