Earl of Eglinton and Winton Coat of Arms Pint Glass - Design Description

This pint glass showcases the richly detailed and historically significant coat of arms of the Earl of Eglinton and Winton, a prominent Scottish peerage. The design, approved by the Court of the Lord Lyon, is a visual testament to the family's lineage, titles, and heritage.

The Shield

The central element is the quartered shield, a complex arrangement that tells a story of alliances and inheritances. The first and fourth grand-quarters are counter-quartered, featuring the blue field and gold fleur-de-lis of the Montgomerie family, reflecting their connection to Eglinton. Within these quarters are the red field and gold annulets, representing Eglinton itself. All of this is enclosed by a gold bordure (border) charged with a double tressure flory-counter-flory in red, a distinctive mark of Scottish nobility, signifying connection to the Seton family.

The second and third grand-quarters of the shield incorporate other elements. The first and fourth of this section includes gold crescents within a double tressure flory-counter-flory in red, which represents Seton. The second and third includes a blue field with three gold garbs (sheaves of wheat), representing the Buchan family.

Overall, a small escutcheon (a smaller shield) appears over the entire design, a sign of added honor. It is divided per pale (vertically). The dexter (right) side displays a red field with a silver sword supporting a crown, a symbol for the Seton/Winton side. The sinister (left) side shows a twelve-pointed silver star, also for Winton. This small shield is also contained within a gold double tressure flory-counter-flory.

Crests, Supporters, and Mottoes

The design also features two crests: one is a lady dressed in blue, holding an anchor and the head of a savage, representing Hope. The second crest depicts a green wyvern (dragon) breathing fire, emerging from a ducal coronet, for Seton/Winton. Two green dragons, the supporters, breathing fire, stand beside the shield.

Two mottoes complete the heraldic achievement: “Garde Bien” ("Guard well") for the Montgomerie/Eglinton side and “Hazard yet forward” for the Seton/Winton side.

Symbolism and Meaning

The overall design of the coat of arms symbolizes the merging of the Montgomerie and Seton families, as well as their claims to Buchan. Each element is carefully chosen to represent different family lines and historical events, making this coat of arms a unique visual representation of Scottish family history and nobility.

Clear 16 oz (≈0.47 L) pint glasses made from solid glass with a heavy base for steady placement. Narrower at the bottom for an easier grip and balanced feel — durable, dishwasher-safe, and ideal for both serving and mixing.

These pints are crafted from 100% clear glass that showcases the drink inside — color, clarity and carbonation are all visible. A heavier, solid base reduces tipping and gives the glass a satisfying weight in the hand while the gently tapered body makes holding and carrying more comfortable.

Built to last, the construction resists chipping under normal use and is suitable for busy service environments as well as retail display. One-sided print work reads bright against the clear surface; the overall aesthetic is clean and modern.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and gloss.
  • Capacity: 16 oz (standard U.S. pint / ≈0.47 L).
  • Base: heavy solid glass base reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Shape: narrower bottom for a comfortable grip and easier carrying.
  • Durability: dishwasher-safe and built for regular use.

Use these glasses for draft pours, mixed drinks, iced beverages and more. Their clear walls show off color and bubbles, which makes them a great choice for menus, tasting flights, and bars where presentation matters.

  1. Serving: ideal for beers, sodas, iced teas and cocktails served cold.
  2. Mixing: also works as a simple mixing glass for shaken or stirred cocktails in casual settings.
  3. Display: clean silhouette fits behind bars, on shelves, or on retail racks.

Quick tip: because the base is heavier, these glasses feel stable on trays and counters — handy when serving multiple drinks at once.

These glasses are dishwasher-safe; place them on the top rack and use a regular household cycle. For best longevity, avoid stacking them tightly and steer clear of high-heat commercial wash cycles when possible.

Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap when you want to preserve maximum clarity and avoid sudden temperature shocks. Handle by the body, not just the rim, to reduce the chance of accidental chipping.
