Earl of Wharncliffe COA (England) Pint Glass - Design Description

This pint glass showcases the distinguished Coat of Arms of the Earl of Wharncliffe, a visual testament to the Montagu-Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie lineage. The design is a captivating amalgamation of heraldic elements, each carrying symbolic weight and representing different facets of the family's history and heritage.

The Shield: A Quartered Legacy

The shield, the central element, is divided into quarters, each presenting a distinct heraldic design. The first quarter displays the arms of Wortley: a silver field (argent) crossed by a red bend. Upon the bend, are three gold bezants, signifying wealth. The field also features six red martlets, heraldic swallows, symbolizing swiftness and travel, and a gold canton bearing a checkered fess, representing the Stuart heritage, within a double border (tressure) with inward facing fleur-de-lis, or flory counter-flory, in red.

The second quarter is the arms of Stuart, which consists of a gold field (or) and a checkered fess, mirroring the canton in the Wortley quarter, again enclosed within a double flory counter-flory border in red. This design is a direct nod to the Stuart ancestry.

The third quarter displays the arms of Montagu. On a silver field (argent) are three red lozenges conjoined in a horizontal line, reflecting stability. This is further encompassed by a black border (bordure), indicating protection and lineage.

Crests: Symbolic Guardians

Above the shield, three crests represent key aspects of the family. The Stuart crest features a red demi-lion rampant, a symbol of courage and strength, accompanied by the motto "Nobilis Ira" (Noble in anger). The Wortley crest depicts an eagle's golden leg, from which three natural-colored ostrich feathers emerge, each representing the desire for excellence, and upon the leg, the checkered fess found in the Wortley and Stuart quarters is repeated. The Montagu crest displays a gold griffin's head, wings displayed and a black beak, symbolizing vigilance and wisdom.

Supporters: Holding the Line

On either side of the shield are supporters. On the right, a silver horse is seen, bridled in red, gorged with a floral collar, signifying honor and dignity, echoing the tressure flory counter-flory found in the shield.

Motto: The Essence of Lineage

Beneath the arms, the motto "Avito viret honore" (He flourishes with the honour of his ancestors) underscores the importance of ancestral legacy and the family's commitment to upholding its traditions.

Clear 16 oz (β‰ˆ0.47 L) pint glasses made from solid glass with a heavy base for steady placement. Narrower at the bottom for an easier grip and balanced feel β€” durable, dishwasher-safe, and ideal for both serving and mixing.

These pints are crafted from 100% clear glass that showcases the drink inside β€” color, clarity and carbonation are all visible. A heavier, solid base reduces tipping and gives the glass a satisfying weight in the hand while the gently tapered body makes holding and carrying more comfortable.

Built to last, the construction resists chipping under normal use and is suitable for busy service environments as well as retail display. One-sided print work reads bright against the clear surface; the overall aesthetic is clean and modern.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and gloss.
  • Capacity: 16 oz (standard U.S. pint / β‰ˆ0.47 L).
  • Base: heavy solid glass base reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Shape: narrower bottom for a comfortable grip and easier carrying.
  • Durability: dishwasher-safe and built for regular use.

Use these glasses for draft pours, mixed drinks, iced beverages and more. Their clear walls show off color and bubbles, which makes them a great choice for menus, tasting flights, and bars where presentation matters.

  1. Serving: ideal for beers, sodas, iced teas and cocktails served cold.
  2. Mixing: also works as a simple mixing glass for shaken or stirred cocktails in casual settings.
  3. Display: clean silhouette fits behind bars, on shelves, or on retail racks.

Quick tip: because the base is heavier, these glasses feel stable on trays and counters β€” handy when serving multiple drinks at once.

These glasses are dishwasher-safe; place them on the top rack and use a regular household cycle. For best longevity, avoid stacking them tightly and steer clear of high-heat commercial wash cycles when possible.

Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap when you want to preserve maximum clarity and avoid sudden temperature shocks. Handle by the body, not just the rim, to reduce the chance of accidental chipping.
