This design reproduces a royal standard of Spain from the first half of the eighteenth century, rendered as a bold, flat heraldic image in which a coat of arms commands the whole field.

Visual Elements & Composition

Red dominates the artwork, covering most of the surface and giving the standard its commanding presence. Gold picks out the crown, collar and cross, while white, pale blue and deeper blue appear in smaller touches. At the centre sits a quartered shield set within an oval escutcheon, with a royal crown rising above it. Blue ribbon bows and a ring collar frame the shield, and a cross pendant hangs below, so the eye moves naturally from the crown down through the heraldry.

Meaning & Symbolism
