Visual Elements & Composition

The flag uses only red and white, with no lettering, figures or ornament to interrupt the field. Two vertical stripes run down the hoist side, a narrow band that anchors the composition at one edge. Five horizontal stripes cross the rest of the field, so the layout reads as a clean grid of bands rather than a picture. The restraint is deliberate. A flag is meant to be recognised at a glance.

Meaning & Symbolism

The red and white palette comes directly from the city's coat of arms and the North Brabant provincial flag, linking Eindhoven's identity to the wider province. The two vertical stripes stand for Eindhoven itself. The five horizontal stripes represent the five municipalities that merged into the modern city in 1920: Woensel, Tongelre, Stratum, Gestel and Strijp.
