The Flag of Kyoto City, Japan, is a symbol representing the historical and cultural significance of this ancient capital city. Adopted on October 25, 1947, the flag features three horizontal bands of white, red, and white in a 2:3:2 ratio from top to bottom. The central band, colored red, bears an emblem consisting of a stylized chrysanthemum (Kiku), a flower that holds great importance in Japanese culture, especially as the national crest of Japan. The flag's design is a simplified adaptation of the imperial seal used during the Heian Period (794–1185), signifying Kyoto's rich historical connection to the Imperial Court.
