This design reproduces the Flag of Royal Prussia, a heraldic banner that carried a single black eagle across a field of white for almost three hundred years.

Visual Elements & Composition

White dominates the design, covering roughly seventy per cent of the field, with the black eagle taking most of the remaining weight. The bird is centred and symmetrical, its spread wings filling the frame and giving the flag a formal, balanced presence. Small touches of gold appear on the talons and the crown, and the beak carries a red tongue. A silver armoured arm rises beside the eagle, gripping a raised sword. Nothing in the composition is decorative for its own sake. Every figure is placed to be read quickly and clearly.

Meaning & Symbolism

The eagle descends from the heraldic traditions of the Teutonic Order, and its gold claws and red-tongued beak mark it as a martial emblem. King Casimir IV Jagiellon granted the flag to the province of Royal Prussia after the Second Peace of Thorn in 1466, and it served as the province's official emblem under Polish sovereignty until the First Partition of Poland in 1772. The flag therefore records a specific moment of political settlement, when a province's identity was formalised in heraldry and held until its partition.
