The Flag of West Sumatra, Indonesia, is a rectangular banner divided into two horizontal sections. The upper section represents the province's historical ties and predominant religion by featuring three vertical stripes: green (at the hoist side), white, and red. These colors symbolize peace, justice, and sincerity, respectively. The lower section of the flag is divided diagonally from the top-right corner to the bottom-left corner into two equal triangles, one blue (on the hoist side) and the other yellow. The Minangkabau symbol, a rooster with spread wings, is located at the center of this diagonal division. This symbol represents the cultural identity of the Minangkabau ethnic group, who are predominant in West Sumatra. The flag was officially adopted on July 10, 1957.
