This design is built from two markers: the designation H81 and the national abbreviation ARM, set together as a single typographic statement about Armenia.
Visual Elements & Composition
The layout is spare and lettered, with no illustration competing for attention. The alphanumeric code H81 and the three-letter abbreviation ARM carry the whole composition, and the clean typography lets each character read clearly at a glance. Nothing is added around them, so the eye settles on the code and its geographic partner straight away.
Meaning & Symbolism
ARM is the standard abbreviation for Armenia, the country whose name it signals in a single glance. Pairing it with H81 gives the piece its sign-like character, the sort of marking that identifies a place and a route to anyone who knows how to read it. The artwork's subject is that relationship between code and country, and it draws its meaning from the identifiers themselves rather than from any decorative motif.
Turning the Mug in Hand
A mug is held close and turned slowly, so the design appears in pieces as you rotate it. The H81 ARM lettering sits on a single plane that you read in one pass, which suits the way a mug is handled, with the code facing you as you lift it. Each morning the design comes round to your eye in the same clear order, making it a quiet, cheeky talking point for anyone who recognises the code.
