III Corps, a component of the United States Army, is one of the four numbered corps within the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM). Established on July 17, 1957, it serves as a geographic combatant command responsible for providing land forces to the Unified Combatant Commands in the continental United States (CONUS) and Alaska. III Corps' area of responsibility spans Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi, with its headquarters located at Fort Hood, Texas. The corps is commanded by a three-star general and provides command and control to around 85,000 soldiers assigned to its subordinate units, including multiple divisions, brigades, support battalions, and other elements. III Corps has deployed in various capacities throughout history, participating in operations such as Desert Shield/Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve.
