IX Corps is a corps-level formation of the United States Army. It was first activated on July 1, 1943, during World War II as part of the U.S. Sixth Army under General Albert C. Wedemeyer. The corps played a significant role in several major campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland Campaign. After the war, IX Corps was deactivated on September 15, 1945. It was reactivated again during the Korean War on July 28, 1950, under General Edward M. Almond. During the Korean War, IX Corps participated in key operations such as Inchon Landing and the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. The corps was once again deactivated on December 15, 1954, only to be reactivated during the Vietnam War on April 27, 1965. IX Corps served in South Vietnam until January 27, 1973, when it was deactivated for the final time as part of the U.S. withdrawal from the country. In modern times, IX Corps is considered a tactical formation capable of conducting independent operations in a theater of war under the command of a field army or joint force headquarters. It can be rapidly deployed to respond to various contingencies around the world.
