Åland Flag Proposal 1953 (Finland) Shot Glass 1.5oz

This is a flag that never flew: a 1953 proposal for the Åland Islands, drawn as a clean Nordic cross in two bold fields of yellow and blue.

Visual Elements & Composition

Yellow takes up most of the field and blue takes the rest, so the palette reads as sunlight over deep water. The layout is flat and graphic, built from a rectangle and a single cross set off-centre toward the hoist. Nothing competes with that cross. The design carries no lettering or numerals, so the shapes do all the talking.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Åland Islands are an autonomous region of Finland, and through the late 1930s and into the early 1950s the islanders argued over how their own flag should look. This 1953 entry was one of several candidates in that debate. It was not adopted. The flag that replaced the contest in 1954 is a red cross edged in yellow on a blue field, and this proposal stands as a record of how the region worked out its identity on paper.

On the Shot Glass

A shot glass is small and held close, usually lifted in one hand and tipped back in a single movement. The cross sits near the centre of the glass, so it stays in view as you raise it and is read at arm's length rather than across a room. Each pour brings the design up to eye level, which suits a piece of regional history that rewards a closer look.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
