Åland Flag Proposal March November 1953 (Finland) Shot Glass 1.5oz

A trial flag from 1953, flown twice that year to test whether the Åland Islands could carry a regional emblem of their own.

Visual Elements & Composition

Red covers the largest share of the field, with yellow filling much of the rest and a touch of blue along the edge. The design is flat and graphic, built from a rectangle and a square-cut cross. There is no lettering or numerals, so the colour blocks and the cross carry the whole image.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Åland Islands sit under Finnish sovereignty but keep a strong Swedish cultural heritage and a measure of self-government. This proposal was one of several designs put forward to balance those two identities in a single emblem. It was hoisted in March and again in November 1953, then set aside. The flag adopted in 1954, a red Nordic cross edged in yellow on a blue field, came out of that same debate.

On the Shot Glass

A shot glass is small and held close, lifted in one hand and set down again within seconds. The red and yellow blocks sit at the front of the glass where they catch the eye first, and the cross reads clearly at arm's length. Every pour puts this piece of regional history at eye level, which suits a flag that was tested, weighed and left behind.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
