Åland Flag Proposal Pestflaggan (Finland) Shot Glass 1.5oz

A mid-century proposal for the Åland Islands that its own regional parliament nicknamed the "Plague Flag" and never adopted.

Visual Elements & Composition

Gold dominates the design, covering roughly three quarters of the surface, with blue making up the remainder. The layout is flat vector work built on a rectangle and a Nordic cross. Colour and the cross do all the work, with no lettering or numerals in the frame.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Åland Islands are an autonomous region of Finland, and their regional government drew this proposal during the long debate over an official flag that ran from the late 1930s into the early 1950s. The name Pestflaggan was given by the regional parliament, Landstinget, which judged the design unappealing. It was rejected in favour of the blue, yellow and red flag adopted in 1954, and it now stands as a reference point for how the islands shaped their modern identity.

On the Shot Glass

A shot glass is small and held close, so the flag is read at a few inches as it is lifted to the lips. The gold field catches the light through the clear glass, and the cross is clear enough to pick out from one side of the glass to the other. It is a fitting piece for a design that was argued over at close range and then set aside.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
