The Lesser Coat of Arms of Greece, also known as the Wittelsbach Coat of Arms, represents a historical variation of the national symbol used by the Kingdom of Greece from 1863 to 1924. This particular version was adopted during the reign of King George I of the House of Wittelsbach, a German branch of the Bavarian royal family. The design features a shield divided into four quarters with symbols that reflect the historical links between Greece and the ancient Roman Empire. On the first quarter, an eagle is shown in a field of red, while the second quarter displays the shield of the House of Wittelsbach. The third quarter shows a black lion on a golden background, representing the Byzantine Empire. Lastly, the fourth quarter features three fleurs-de-lis, symbolizing France, reflecting Greece's ties with the country during the French Revolution and Napoleonic era. Above the shield, there is an ancient Greek helmet adorned with a phoenix rising from its ashes, representing rebirth and renewal. The whole design is encompassed by a blue ribbon bearing the motto 'Ελευθερία και Τιμή' (Freedom and Glory). This specific coat of arms was replaced in 1924 by the Great Faster Coat of Arms after King George I's death.
