Old Texas 71 (Texas) (Road Sign) Shot Glass 1.5oz

This shot glass carries a piece of Texas highway history: a pre-standardisation road sign for State Highway 71, rendered in flat black and white.

Visual Elements & Composition

Black and white do all the work here. The design is built on high-contrast flat shapes with no gradients, so the sign reads cleanly at close range. The bold numeral 71 sits at the centre of the composition, and the word TEXAS is set beneath it in a plain, blocky typeface. The surrounding frame is a simple ring, giving the whole mark the solid, emblem-like outline that roadside markers of the period were known for.

Meaning & Symbolism

State Highway 71 was established in 1926 and originally ran from Brady eastward toward Austin. Today it stretches to Port Lavaca on the Gulf Coast, passing through Austin along the Ben White Boulevard freeway. The sign reflects the styles that marked the route before the rectangular shield was adopted in 1948: the early state-outline marker from the 1920s, and the circle-in-square design that spread across the state through the 1930s and 1940s. Together they document how Texas organised its roads before standard signage took over.

On the Shot Glass

A shot glass is small and held close, so the design is seen at the same intimate range as the numerals and lettering on a roadside sign. The flat graphic reads clearly as the glass is turned in the light, and the bold 71 stays legible from the rim down.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
