Visual Elements & Composition

The map fills the surface edge to edge with the ocean floor rendered as relief. Shading moves from pale tones over the broad abyssal plains to deep blues in the trenches, and the ridges stand out as lighter, raised bands that run through the basin like the seams of a great unfinished sculpture.
