This is a historical reproduction of the seal of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata, the 1813 assembly emblem of the early South American republic.

Visual Elements & Composition

Brick red dominates the design, with slate blue, white, olive green and tan in smaller amounts. The emblem is set inside an oval seal and an inner oval field. A sun with a face rises within the field, and a red liberty cap sits on a pike beside clasped hands and a laurel wreath. The lettering around the edge is partly legible, with fragments of ASAMBLE, UNIDAS, DEL PLATA and the date 1813 visible in the ring.

Meaning & Symbolism

The sun with a face is a common emblem of the revolutionary period in South America and stands for the new republic.
