The Shield of Arms of Sweden, also known as the Swedish Coat of Arms, is the heraldic symbol representing the Scandinavian country. Adopted in its current form in 1560 during the reign of King John III, it features a gold (or yellow) field divided into four quarters. The first quarter displays an azure (blue) Scandinavian cross, symbolizing Sweden's Christian heritage and connections to Denmark and Norway. The second quarter showcases an argent (silver) lion rampant, representing the historic province of Småland. The third quarter depicts a gules (red) three-leaved borealis pine tree, representing the province of Dalarna. Lastly, the fourth quarter exhibits a field parted per pale azure and argent, representing Svealand (the traditional heartland of Sweden). Atop the shield, there is a crown known as the "Crown of Charles VIII." The motto "For Herren och Seger" ("For the Lord and Victory") can be found on a scroll beneath the shield. The Swedish Coat of Arms is widely used in official contexts, such as on government buildings, coins, and military insignia.
