Soyuz TM-29 (Soyuz Programme) The Soyuz TM-29 was a manned space flight mission that took place on September 15, 1998, as part of the Soyuz Programme. This particular mission marked the inaugural flight of the improved Soyuz-TM model and carried the Russian cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko, Sergei Avdeyev, and NASA astronaut William Shepherd to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch took place from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. During their stay on ISS, the crew conducted various scientific experiments and prepared for the arrival of future Expedition crews. Upon completion of its mission, Soyuz TM-29 returned safely to Earth on March 4, 1999, marking the end of the first long-duration stay by a Russian crew aboard the ISS.
