The Soyuz TM-5 was a crewed spaceflight mission that occurred as part of the Soyuz programme, which is a Russian human space flight program that has been in operation since 1967. This specific mission, launched on April 20, 1984, carried cosmonauts Viktor Afanasyev and Gennady Strekalov to the Salyut 7 orbital space station. The primary objective of the Soyuz TM-5 mission was to replace the previous crew onboard the station. Upon successful docking on April 23, both astronauts were able to join the existing crew members and continue scientific research until their safe return to Earth on June 18, 1984.
