An outlined pentagon in black and white frames the letters SP and the number 468, a flat vector highway shield that reads at a single glance.
Visual Elements & Composition
White makes up roughly four-fifths of the artwork, and black draws the pentagon outline and the lettering. SP and 468 are stacked in the centre of the badge, the letters above the numerals. The shape is the only graphic element, so the marker takes the whole frame and the eye moves straight to the route number.
Meaning & Symbolism
SP is the state code for São Paulo, and 468 is the route number the shield identifies on the state highway system. Pentagonal shields in this form are standard across Brazilian roads, so the artwork depicts a working road sign and the wayfinding it provides rather than a symbolic image of the country.
On a Mug
A mug is turned in the hand and read from the handle side as well as from the front, so a self-contained marker suits it. The outline keeps its shape as the surface curves away, and the strong two-tone contrast keeps the number clear across the width of the cup.
