Black and white meet in a single pentagonal badge that carries the letters SP and the number 487, a flat vector route marker.
Visual Elements & Composition
The image is built from two colours, with white filling about four-fifths of the frame and black tracing the pentagon outline. SP sits over the number 487 at the centre of the shape. Nothing else appears in the composition, so the badge is the entire subject and the lettering carries all of the detail.
Meaning & Symbolism
SP is the state code for São Paulo, and 487 is the route designation the badge records on the state highway network. Shields of this pentagonal form are a standard part of Brazilian roadside signage, so the piece depicts a functional road marker rather than an emblem with a deeper allegory.
Turned in the Hand
A mug is held close and rotated as it is drunk from, so a compact, self-contained badge is a natural fit. The outline stays legible across the curve of the ceramic, and the simple contrast gives the route number a clear presence whichever side of the cup is facing you.
