A pentagonal badge with a double outline in black and white bears the letters SP and the number 509, a flat vector state route marker.
Visual Elements & Composition
The palette is strictly two-tone, with white taking about four-fifths of the image and black forming the pentagon and its inner border. SP and 509 are set inside the shape, the letters above the numerals. There is no background or secondary graphic, so the layout feels direct and uncluttered, and the badge holds the whole frame.
Meaning & Symbolism
SP is the state code for São Paulo, and 509 is the route number the marker carries on the state road network. Pentagonal shields with an inner border are a recognisable element of Brazilian road signage, so the artwork documents a functional sign rather than offering an abstract interpretation of the region.
How It Sits on a Mug
A mug is turned in the hand and viewed from several angles while it is held, which suits a self-contained marker like this one. The double outline keeps its form as the surface curves away from the eye, and the high black-and-white contrast makes the number easy to read from across a room.
