The Special Operations Joint Task Force Afghanistan 2 (SOJTF-A2) is a military task force operating under the U.S. Army during the Afghanistan War. It was one of two SOJTFs deployed in Afghanistan at its peak, the other being the Special Operations Joint Task Force Afghanistan 1. The primary role of these task forces was to conduct and coordinate counter-terrorism and counterinsurgency operations within Afghanistan in support of U.S. and allied efforts to stabilize the region. SOJTF-A2's area of responsibility was primarily focused on eastern Afghanistan, including provinces such as Paktia, Khost, and Nangarhar. Composed of various U.S. special operations forces (SOF) units, the task force worked closely with Afghan National Security Forces, Coalition partners, and other government agencies to achieve its objectives. These objectives included training, advising, and assisting local forces; conducting targeted counter-terrorism missions against high-value targets; and supporting stabilization and reconstruction efforts in vulnerable communities. The deployment of SOJTF-A2 began in 2010, following the surge of U.S. troops into Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The task force's mission evolved over time, adapting to changing circumstances on the ground. As the United States and its allies shifted their focus towards a strategic withdrawal from Afghanistan, SOJTF-A2 gradually scaled down its operations and eventually concluded its mission by 2014.
