The Knight of Pentacles shows a rider seated still on a heavy dark horse, one gloved hand raised to hold a single gold pentacle, the coin of earth and labour, while the horse stands at the edge of a freshly turned field.

Visual Elements & Composition

The knight and horse fill the centre of the picture and dominate the eye. Armour catches the light in muted tones, and the horse's dark coat anchors the lower half. The pentacle is the brightest point in the scene, held level with the rider's face so that it reads first, before anything else. Behind them, the ploughed ground runs in rough furrows toward distant hills and a few sparse trees, a composition that keeps the eye moving slowly across the card. There is no lettering on this design; the coin itself carries the only symbol the artist chose to emphasise.

The Pentacles suit in tarot concerns the material world: money, work, health and what can be built with patience. The Knight is the suit's stage of steady, methodical effort, the card of the worker who does not rush and does not quit.
