Theodore Talbot was an American military officer who served during the U.S. Civil War. He was born on July 16, 1833, and spent his early life in Wisconsin. In 1859, he joined the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in the 2nd Artillery. When the Civil War began in 1861, Talbot was appointed as a First Lieutenant in the 4th U.S. Artillery and saw action at the First Battle of Bull Run. He later served under General Ambrose Burnside during the Maryland Campaign and the Battle of Fredericksburg. In 1863, he was promoted to Captain. Talbot's most notable service came in the Overland Campaign where he participated in the Battle of the Wilderness, the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, and the Battle of North Anna. He was wounded during the Battle of Cold Harbor but returned to duty for the Siege of Petersburg. In recognition of his bravery and service, Talbot received brevet promotions to Major and Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, he remained in the Army, serving in various posts until his retirement in 1893. Theodore Talbot died on July 24, 1905, at his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
