The United States Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) is a federal intelligence agency responsible for providing military intelligence to support the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Established in 1961, it operates under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, providing strategic intelligence on foreign military capabilities, weapons, and threats to national security. The DIA collects, analyzes, produces, and disseminates all-source military intelligence on global defense issues that could impact U.S. national security interests. It has around 17,000 civilian, military, and contractor personnel stationed worldwide.
