University of Strathclyde Arms Shot Glass Design

This shot glass showcases the heraldic achievement of the University of Strathclyde, a design rich in symbolism and history.

The Shield

The central element is the shield, vertically divided (per pale) into red (Gules) and blue (Azure). A prominent white diagonal cross, known as a saltire (Argent), overlays the colored background. In the upper portion, or chief, sits a gold antique crown (Or). Along the sides (flanks) and the base of the shield, you'll find three stylized five-petaled flowers, or cinquefoils, rendered in Ermine fur, indicated by the pattern of black markings on white.

Across the top of the shield, a horizontal gold band (chief Or) contains the remaining elements. Centered within the chief is a stylized black wave shape, often called a "wave-packet" (Sable). Flanking the wave-packet are two open books, depicted in their natural colors (Proper), with their fore-edges and bindings rendered in red (Gules).

Symbolism

The design elements are steeped in meaning. The open books unequivocally represent learning and scholarship, core values of the university. The wave-packet is believed to reference the River Clyde, reflecting Strathclyde's geographical connection to the river. The antique crown could symbolize either royal patronage or the institution's historic status. The cinquefoils may have ties to the University’s earlier predecessors.

Compact, heavy-based shot glasses made from clear, restaurant-grade glass. One standard size (1.5 oz / ≈44.3 ml) — sturdy, stack-friendly, and built to handle frequent service without fuss.

These shot glasses feel solid in the hand thanks to a thick, weighty base that keeps them steady on busy bar tops. The walls are even and clear, giving a nice, unobstructed view of the pour; the rim is smoothed for comfortable sipping.

They’re engineered for regular use: consistent dimensions, dependable weight, and a simple silhouette that suits both casual venues and more formal tasting counters. Designed to perform rather than show off.

  • Material: 100% clear glass for pure clarity and clean presentation.
  • Capacity: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml) — standard shot measure.
  • Base: heavy solid glass base that reduces tipping and improves balance.
  • Construction: restaurant-grade durability for frequent handling and washing.
  • Print-ready: suitable for single-sided print applications that withstand typical use.

Perfect for quick pours, samplers, and neat shots. Their compact footprint makes them easy to place on trays and tasting lines, while the heavier base keeps things steady during service.

  1. Bar service: quick, consistent pours — less wobble when carrying a tray of shots.
  2. Tastings: uniform size is handy for sampling flights or spirit tastings.
  3. Events: robust enough for pop-ups, festivals, and busy bartending shifts.

Storage tip: store upright and avoid tight stacking to protect rims and preserve clarity.

Dishwasher-safe for everyday cleaning — place on the top rack and use a normal household cycle. Repeated exposure to very high commercial temperatures can shorten glass life, so choose gentler programs where practical.

When you want to extend clarity and finish: hand-wash with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft cloth; dry right away to avoid water spots. Handle by the body (not the rim) to reduce accidental chipping.

One size only: 1.5 oz (≈44.3 ml). Use the dimensions below for shelving, packaging, or tray planning.
