The U.S. 63rd Cavalry Division is a historic military formation within the United States Army, primarily active during World War II and the Korean War. Originally activated on October 15, 1942, as part of the expansion of U.S. forces in response to World War II, the division consisted of cavalry troops who were tasked with reconnaissance and screening missions. During World War II, the 63rd Cavalry Division was deployed to the European Theater where it saw action in France, Belgium, and Germany. Post-war, it was deactivated on November 24, 1945, at Camp Zama, Japan. The division was reactivated on July 18, 1950, following North Korea's invasion of South Korea, and deployed to the Korean War. It served in various combat roles until it was deactivated again on February 27, 1954, at Camp Stoneman, California. Throughout its history, the U.S. 63rd Cavalry Division made significant contributions to U.S. military efforts and played a crucial role in the defense of freedom during two major conflicts of the 20th century.
