Visual Elements & Composition

The map fills the wraparound surface, so the states run across the curve of the mug rather than sitting in a box. State boundaries and place names carry the composition, with the region's outline dominating the view. "North Central" was the name the U.S. Census Bureau gave to the group of Midwestern states, from Ohio and Michigan west through the Dakotas and Nebraska.
