The U.S. Coast Guard Academy Mechanical Engineering program is a four-year undergraduate course offered at the United States Coast Guard Academy, a federal service academy located in New London, Connecticut. This program focuses on the application of principles of engineering for the development, design, and operation of mechanical systems. The curriculum includes courses in thermodynamics, mechanics, materials science, structural analysis, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, control systems, and engineering design. Students also gain practical experience through lab work, projects, and cooperative training programs with the Coast Guard. Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering program at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy are prepared for careers in a variety of fields within the Coast Guard, as well as in other mechanical engineering roles in the public and private sectors. Upon graduation, they receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and are commissioned as officers in the U.S. Coast Guard. Students admitted to the academy undergo a rigorous four-year program that combines their chosen major with a broad liberal arts education, leadership development, physical fitness training, and professional military instruction. In addition to the academic program, cadets serve at least five years active duty in the Coast Guard upon graduation.
