The USS Kitty Hawk CV 63 is an American aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 2009. Named after the site of the Wright Brothers' first powered flight, this vessel was the tenth ship to bear the name 'Kitty Hawk.' Commissioned on December 3, 1961, the Kitty Hawk was a Forrestal-class aircraft carrier and was part of the United States' nuclear-powered fleet. Throughout its service, it played a crucial role in various military operations, including the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and numerous humanitarian missions. Notable features include an overall length of 1,092 feet (333 meters) and a displacement of approximately 45,000 tons at full load. Upon decommissioning on September 27, 2009, the USS Kitty Hawk was towed to Bremerton, Washington, where it remains in reserve.
