USS Simpson (U.S. Navy) White Coffee Mug

The USS Simpson is a U.S. Navy ship named after James D. Simpson, a Navy Cross recipient from the American Civil War. This vessel belongs to the Avenger-class river minesweeper, designated as the Minesweeper, Small (MSF) type in the modern U.S. Navy. The USS Simpson's primary role is to detect and neutralize underwater explosives placed as naval mines to prevent ships from passing through a particular area. These ships are also equipped for towing sonar arrays to further enhance their mine detection capabilities. The first USS Simpson was commissioned in 1967, with the current iteration being launched in 2008.
