The Victory Task Force (VTF) is a U.S. Army unit that was formed during the Iraq War to oversee and coordinate the final phases of the invasion of Baghdad in 2003. Comprising approximately 10,500 soldiers from various units, its primary objective was to secure key infrastructure, such as government buildings, ministries, and palaces in the capital city. The VTF's formation marked a shift in U.S. military strategy towards stabilization and post-conflict operations, following the rapid advance of coalition forces into Baghdad. Despite initially facing resistance from Iraqi forces and insurgents, the VTF played a crucial role in securing the capital city, paving the way for the establishment of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) and the transition to post-Saddam Hussein governance in Iraq. The VTF was disbanded after completing its mission, with its soldiers returning to their respective units or being reassigned within the U.S. military structure.
