Notably, the squadron was involved in the Korean War, where it flew F9F Panthers, and later in the Vietnam War with A-4 Skyhawks. Currently, the Checkmates operate the F/A-18 Hornet fleet as a part of the USMC's Marine Aircraft Group 39.
