WA-SSH17-A (Washington) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

A black-and-white rounded plate in flat vector that pairs a profile silhouette of George Washington with the word WASHINGTON and the number 17.

Visual Elements & Composition

Black and white share the surface almost equally, so the design has a crisp, two-tone balance. The profile silhouette sits on the left of the rounded rectangle, with the lettering WASHINGTON and the numerals 17 and A set in the field beside and below it. The portrait is the most striking mark, and the typography is kept clean and sparse so it does not compete with the figure. The layout reads as a simple, graphic plate.

Meaning & Symbolism

The profile honours George Washington, the first president of the United States, after whom the state's namesake is also named. Set beside the state name, the portrait links the Pacific Northwest to the wider story of the nation's founding. The sign format borrows from road markers, so the design blends a civic portrait with the vocabulary of travel, a pairing that makes it a small piece of American history on the move.

Framing the Artwork on This Mug

A mug is turned in the hand, so the profile moves across the eye as the cup rotates, with the face crossing the front and the state name carried around the curve. The strong black silhouette holds its outline from either side of the handle, and the handle sits clear of the portrait. It suits a desk or a kitchen shelf where a bit of history belongs.
