WA-SSH21-C (Washington) (Road Sign) White Coffee Mug

This design is a black and white Washington route marker for Secondary State Highway 21 branch C, with the state's George Washington silhouette above the route code.

Visual Elements & Composition

Black fills most of the rounded-rectangle panel, with the white silhouette of George Washington's head and the white lettering standing out against it. WASHINGTON runs along the marker, and the designation 21 C sits beneath, so the portrait and the route code read in a clear order. The composition is minimal, with flat shapes and no ornament beyond the type.

Meaning & Symbolism

The marker belonged to the secondary highway system that Washington used between 1937 and the 1964 renumbering. Branch C of Secondary State Highway 21 was later folded into the modern State Route 300 designation. The silhouette of the state's namesake served as the regional emblem for the network, and the route code told travellers exactly where they stood within it.

On the Coffee Mug

A mug is turned in the hand, so the silhouette and the route code come round one side at a time as you drink. The rounded panel suits the smooth white surface of the mug, where the black and white marker reads as a complete image from every angle.
