War College (U.S. Army) The War College, also known as the United States Army War College (USAWC), is a U.S. Department of Defense educational institution located at Carlisle Barracks in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Established in 1901, it serves as one of the Senior Service Colleges of the United States Armed Forces, along with the Naval War College and the Air Force Institute of Technology. The War College's primary mission is to educate and prepare senior military officers for the highest levels of national security and military leadership through a comprehensive understanding of strategic theory and its application to current and emerging global issues. This includes multidisciplinary study, analysis, research, and debate on military strategy, joint operations, geopolitics, diplomacy, economics, law, and ethics in an environment that encourages critical thinking and collaboration.
