Visual Elements & Composition

The whole globe is laid out flat across the surface, with mountains, plains, and basins shaded in graded colour so the eye reads the ground's height and form before it reads any place name. Lowlands sit in greens and yellows, higher country moves through browns toward pale ridges, and the oceans are kept in cool, quieter tones. The landmasses are the dominant shapes, and their coastlines do most of the work of identifying each region. Against the black ground, the lighter relief stands out boldly, and the map reads as a single continuous surface wrapping around the mug.
