Symbolism

The shield displays vair, a fur pattern of white and blue, from the arms of Fléville, France, which represents the regiment's objective during the Argonne operation. The crossed Indian arrow and Philippine bolo symbolize the regiment's engagements in Indian and Philippine conflicts, while the five-bastioned fort recalls the badge of the V Corps in Cuba.
